{"id":5374,"date":"2010-12-16T23:49:22","date_gmt":"2010-12-16T22:49:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ethicalquote.com\/?p=5374"},"modified":"2010-12-21T13:07:01","modified_gmt":"2010-12-21T12:07:01","slug":"newly-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.covalence.ch\/index.php\/2010\/12\/16\/newly-released\/","title":{"rendered":"Newly released WikiLeaks cables show BP covered up another drilling blowout"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/political-buzz-in-national\/new-wikileaks-docs-show-bp-covered-up-another-drilling-blowout\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5375\" title=\"101221_spill\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ethicalquote.com\/newTemplate\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/101221_spill.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a>As if BP needed more bad news following <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/political-buzz-in-national\/federal-government-files-massive-lawsuit-against-bp-and-eight-other-companies\">the Justice Department lawsuit filed against them yesterday<\/a>, they now are under attack by WikiLeaks as well.\u00c2\u00a0 Yesterday WikiLeaks released more secret cables <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/2010\/dec\/15\/wikileaks-bp-azerbaijan-gulf-spill\">which revealed BP narrowly escaped another tragedy involving a drilling blowout<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Even worst, the cables show that BP actively tried to cover up the accident after the fact. The drilling site in question was in the country of Azerbaijan in  Asia.\u00c2\u00a0 A blowout on BP\u2019s gas platform occurred there 18 months before  the blowout on the Deepwater Horizon site in the Gulf of Mexico.\u00c2\u00a0 The  blowout in Azerbaijan resulted in two fields being shut down and  production being decreased for months.\u00c2\u00a0 The cable claims that the  company was lucky to get all 212 workers at the site away safely.\u00c2\u00a0  Despite the enormous danger with the blowout, the story really never  made it to the media and the cables show this was not an accident.
