The lawsuit was filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia against Compass Group, which is based in Chertsey, England, and has its North American headquarters in Charlotte, N.C. Among other things, the suit alleges: – The defendants were subjected to racial slurs by their managers; – Compass unfairly disciplined and fired blacks because of their race; – Compass only permits white employees to work out front in the presence of guests during private catering functions, such as a Democratic Governors Association meeting held at the Comcast Center in July; – And Compass initially hired black employees only for lower-level positions at its Comcast Center operations and since has purged most blacks to create a nearly all-white work environment. Compass issued a statement saying it disputes the assertions in the lawsuit and plans to vigorously defend itself. The company also said it embraces diversity, inclusion and respect in the workplace and prohibits behavior contrary to those values.
