Neste Oil was among the most praised companies last week, as it said that its renewable NEXBTL diesel are among the quickest and most efficient way to reduce traffic-related emissions, following a decision by the European Council to add renewable traffic fuels to the Community’s energy and climate package; Neste Oil also announced it has joined the United Nations Global Compact to strengthen its commitment to respecting human and labor rights. Boeing and Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China (COMAC) opened a demonstration facility that will turn waste cooking oil, or “gutter oil,” into sustainable aviation biofuel. The Hershey Company announced an innovative partnership with its suppliers and Olam International “to help thousands of farmers in Côte d’Ivoire improve productivity, raise incomes and improve communities”. Abengoa has been selected for the CDP Climate Performance Leadership Index (CPLI) 2014 as one of the top 200 companies around the world with excellent climate change performance, and it announced the official opening of its second generation cellulosic ethanol plant in Hugoton, Kansas.

Deutsche Lufthansa was among the most criticized companies last week after its pilots union expanded their strike due to a dispute over pilots’ retirement benefits. Former executives of the Bankia group are accused by Spain’s National Court of spending millions on nightclubs, safaris and other luxuries using company credit cards. The former head of the wealth management division for the Americas at UBS began testifying against his former boss who is accused of conspiring to conceal up to $20 billion in U.S. taxpayers’ assets in secret offshore accounts. The chairman of Tesco announced his resignation amid an accounting scandal in which the company admitted it had overstated its projected profits.
