Amazon was among the most criticized companies last week, as the EU competition authority said that Luxembourg’s 2003 tax ruling for its local subsidiary Amazon EU Sarl might not be in line with market conditions. Switzerland has transmitted to the French authorities documents on 300 customers of UBS suspected of evading tax, and French magistrates have proposed that UBS pay a fine of 4.88 billion euros, according to Reuters. Barclays has agreed to pay nearly $20 million to resolve a U.S. class action lawsuit accusing the bank of manipulating the Libor benchmark interest rate. A union representing German train drivers voted for strikes in a pay dispute with Deutsche Bahn. A U.S. federal judge said JPMorgan Chase must face a class action lawsuit by investors who claimed it misled them about the safety of $10 billion of mortgage-backed securities it sold before the financial crisis (Reuters).
