Kroger appeared among the most praised companies last week as it announced it has donated more than 50 million pounds of products to local Feeding America food banks in 2013; Kroger, together with The Coca-Cola Company, Honeywell International and other US firms, also committed to reduce emissions of hydrofluorocarbons at the Climate Summit in New York City. As part of a constructive dialogue with NGO Finnwatch Neste Oil demands that its Malaysian palm oil supplier, the IOI Group, improve its situation regarding decent living wages, the position of migrant workers, and freedom of association for employees. Adecco Group has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability (DJSI) World and Europe Indices for the fourth consecutive year, which brings recognition to the company’s initiatives in favor of disadvantaged youngsters amongst others.

Air France-KLM was among the most criticized companies last week, after a four days pilot strike over fears low-cost operations would threaten their jobs. Deutsche Lufthansa also experienced a pilot strike regarding early retirement conditions. HSBC has agreed to pay $550m to resolve a US regulator’s claims that it falsely represented the quality of mortgage bonds sold to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and it belongs to the group of 13 banks sued by the State of Virginia over alleged mortgage bond fraud — this group includes Morgan Stanley. German Justice Minister has asked Google to be transparent about the algorithm used in its search engine to ensure the company is not violating Europe’s antitrust laws.
